How Admins Should Handle Soft or Hard Handicap Caps

Can an admin prevent a soft or hard cap from being applied?

  • No. An administrator must wait until a cap (soft or hard) has been applied before taking action.

Handling caps for medical reasons

  • Once a cap has been applied, an administrator may make adjustments for medical issues (Rule 5.8, Rules of Handicapping).
  • Adjustments can include modifying or removing the cap after it has already been applied.

Recommended steps for admins

  1. Monitor the member’s scores and handicap index as usual.
  2. If a soft or hard cap is applied, review the member’s situation.
  3. If the member has a medical condition or other qualifying reason, proceed to adjust or remove the cap according to your organization’s adjustment process and policies.
