How did the treatment of 9-hole scores change under the World Handicap System™ in 2024?
As of January 2024, when you post a 9-hole score, the WHS™ automatically calculates an 18-hole Score Differential™ for the round. This calculation combines your 9-hole Score Differential with an expected Score Differential derived from your current Handicap Index®, so the 9-hole round is factored into your Handicap Index right away.
As part of this change, you are required to play and post all 9 holes on a course with a valid 9-hole Course Rating™ and Slope Rating™. If your course does not have a valid 9-hole Course Rating™ and Slope Rating™, the round cannot be posted as a 9-hole score. Watch a video about the treatment of 9-hole scores.
