How do I become a Volunteer? What positions are available and do I need experience?

If you are interested in volunteering with AZ GOLF, we have some positions that require training, education, and/or experience; however, some positions do not, and onsite training is available.

General Tournament Volunteering: Does not require experience. Tournament & Event Volunteers may take on a variety of roles at an AZ GOLF event. These roles may include acting as a Starter or Scoring volunteer, serving as a Greeter or Registration volunteer, Hydration Attendant or a Checkpoint Monitor. Onsite training is provided for these roles.

Rules Officials: Training and certification are required. Rules Officials must have working knowledge of the Rules of Golf and significant on-course experience. Rules Officials are authorized to decide questions of fact and apply the Rules of Golf.
    • A Rules Official may:
      • Assist players with the Rules
      • Setup and prepare the golf course
      • Be assigned as a Pace Official

Visit our Rules of Golf page or our Rules of Golf FAQ section to learn more!

Course Raters: Course Rating volunteers are essential to the World of Handicapping System (WHS). These volunteers evaluate the challenges golfers face when playing a golf course by assessing the course's obstacles and effective playing length. These evaluations lead to the development of each course's Course Rating used in Course Handicap calculations. The position requires training and certification.

***We are currently accepting applications for Northern and Southern Arizona Course Rating Volunteers.

Required of all volunteers: A background check and onboarding is required for each volunteer. For more information about volunteering, click HERE.
