How Are 9-Hole and 10–17-Hole Scores Displayed in GHIN?

Scores for fewer than 18 holes can still be used to calculate an 18-hole Score Differential™. How the score appears in your scoring record depends on the number of holes played.

9-Hole Scores

When a 9-hole score is posted, your scoring record will display:

Your 9-hole score
The 9-hole Course Rating™ and Slope Rating™ for the tees played
An 18-hole Score Differential™, created using the Score Differential™ from the 9 holes played and a 9-hole expected Score Differential™ based on your current Handicap Index®
A score type of “N”

Beginning with the 2024 World Handicap System™ (WHS™) revision, the “N” score type represents a 9-hole score combined with an expected Score Differential™ to produce an 18-hole Score Differential™. Prior to 2024, it may represent two 9-hole scores that were combined.

Scores of 10–17 Holes

When 10–17 holes are played and posted, your scoring record will display:

The total number of strokes taken, followed by the number of holes played. For example, a score of 62 over 14 holes may display as 62 (14).
The 18-hole Course Rating™ and Slope Rating™ for the tees played
An 18-hole Score Differential™, calculated using your expected Score Differential™ for the holes not played

The exact display format may vary depending on the score-posting product being used.
