I had a recent injury and can no longer play to my handicap. Can the Handicap Committee make an adjustment?

What happens to my Handicap Index® if I am injured?

If you are injured, your Handicap Committee can adjust your Handicap Index® upward or downward to better reflect your current playing ability. If the injury causes a lasting change, pre-injury scores may be excluded. A modified Handicap Index® is shown with an "M" indicator.How does the Handicap Committee adjust my Handicap Index® after an injury?

If scores posted following an injury indicate that your current Handicap Index® no longer reflects your playing ability, the Handicap Committee can make an upward or downward adjustment on your behalf. The Committee will then continue to review your scoring record as each new score is posted to ensure the adjustment remains appropriate.

What if my injury causes a permanent change in ability?

If the injury has resulted in a lasting change in playing ability, the Handicap Committee may exclude scores posted prior to the injury so that your Handicap Index® more accurately reflects your current game.

How will I know if my Handicap Index has been modified?

A modified Handicap Index® is displayed with an “M” indicator next to the value in your golf club's handicap management system. (Rule 7.1, Rules of Handicapping)

If your Handicap Index® is adjusted upward, the Handicap Committee should also consider resetting your Low Handicap Index™ to the same value as the adjusted Handicap Index®.
