What is the definition of Scratch and Bogey Player in regard to Course Ratings™?

For Course Ratings™, a Scratch Player is a golfer with a 0.0 Handicap Index® and a Bogey Player is a higher-handicap golfer used as the second reference point when rating a course. Correct yardage is the most important information, but the rating process also considers all obstacles that come into play for male and female Scratch and Bogey Players for each set of tees. Here are the definitions for both:

  • What is a Scratch Player for Course Rating purposes?

    Scratch Player: A golfer with a 0.0 Handicap Index®. For rating purposes, the male scratch player hits a 250-yard tee shot and can reach a 470-yard hole in two shots. The female scratch player can hit 210 yards off the tee and reach a 400-yard hole in two shots.

  • What is a Bogey Player for Course Rating purposes?

    Bogey Player: A higher-handicap golfer used as the second reference point when rating a course. A male bogey player has a Handicap Index® of about 20.0 and can hit 200 yards off the tee, reaching a 370-yard hole in two shots. A female bogey player has a Handicap Index® of about 24.0 and can hit 150 yards off the tee and can reach a 280-yard hole in two shots.
