When establishing a Handicap Index®, how are 9-hole scores treated?

How many holes are required to establish a Handicap Index?

To establish a Handicap Index, a golfer must post scores from a total of 54 holes. Those holes can be made up of any combination of 9- and/or 18-hole scores. Expected score is not used to calculate Score Differentials until the golfer has posted scores from all 54 individual holes.

What happens after a golfer posts scores from 54 holes?

Once a golfer posts scores from 54 holes, two things happen automatically:

  • An 18-hole Score Differential™ is calculated for each 9-hole score and displayed within the golfer's scoring record.
  • The golfer's initial Handicap Index is established.
